Our vision at 5-2-50 (pronounced Five To Fifty) is to eradicate poverty through ensuring that there is a good job available to every woman and man on earth who is able and willing to work.
A good job is a job that pays enough to allow you to provide decent food, shelter, clothing, and some extras for your family, save up enough for retirement, give your children a good education, and invest in activities that are important and enjoyable to you. A good job allows you to grow and it is aligned with your design and purpose, and gives you a sense of meaning and fulfillment. By implication we are not only trying to create jobs, but also to change the way work is seen and experienced. We will start in South Africa, with the vision on expanding to the rest of Africa and then the rest of the world.
Our 15 Year Vision from 2024 to 2039: 1 000 000 jobs; 25 000 businesses impacted
Our vision for the 15 years from 2024 to 2039 is to help 25 000 businesses grow from an average of 10 employees to 50 employees, creating a million good new jobs; and generating an average of the equivalent of ZAR 10 million per year net profit after tax per business.
Our mission is to eradicate poverty through building wealth and creating jobs.
By helping small businesses grow, we are generating wealth for owners and society. Wealth provides a foundation of security for business sustainability through difficult times.
We focus in organisations that are currently between five to ten people in number, have been running for at least three years, and that have a strong desire for growth. We help them grow to approximately 50 employees in no more than 5 years, with a goal of reaching a stable net profit after tax of approximately ZAR 10 million per year (or its equivalent in the local currency of the business).
By providing a mechanism for individuals and companies to help fund the eradication of poverty, we also create a mechanism for building wealth as they share in the success and growth of the companies that 5-2-50 will be developing.
Gallup studies have found that having a “good job” is one of the key indicators of wellness for individuals, and the availability of good jobs is one of the key drivers of socio-economic well-being of cities and regions. 5-2-50 is specifically focused on driving growth in the number of people companies are employing.
Having a good job is the foundation for eradicating poverty.
When every individual in a society can have a good job, and be part of a functioning, economically vibrant society, poverty is eradicated – not just alleviated. A good job also eradicates emotional, psychological and spiritual poverty by providing growth and meaning in these areas.
